Lifehack: Advice for posterity

Sunday 2 November 2008, 4.39pm HKT

Want to leave morsels of wisdom to your children? Anyone?

Write your lessons of life, insights, knowledge, trade secrets, inspiration, principles, prejudices, truisms, shortcuts or whatever in a pocket notebook.

One pearl of wisdom in 50 words or less – get to the point! Start each item on a new page.

Neatness is unimportant. Calligraphy is unnecessary. Artwork, optional.

Your own knowledge or insight is imperative.

Eliminate classic or even classical quotations – like Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “I hate quotations. Tell me what you know.”

Pray tell.

(A ‘trick’ originally learnt in elementary school for science subjects: The Naked Listener is a direct descendant of this lifehack.)
