Sunday 29 March 2009, 6.08am HKT

In the wee hours of the morning during the Hong Kong Sevens 2009 rugby weekend, one woman to another in a restaurant (they sat at different tables and don’t know each other):

Aussie #1 (to her own friend): “Gawd, my feet hurt.”

Aussie #2 (at another table): “Uh, yeah, mine hurts too.”

Aussie #1 (on her way out): “You’re wearing heels; you get no sympathy.”

Aussie #2: “Hmm. Right.”

Me (remarking to my friend): “Imagine saying that to a Chinese person in this situation.”

My friend: “Umm, it would’ve turned into a slanging match.”
