Lifehack: How to email efficiently

Sunday 28 February 2010, 5.15am HKT

Problem: You’re flooded all the time with email. Some require short responses, others longer ones. All take too long to respond to. The result is an unending stream to the inbox for those who receive a lot of email.

Lifehack: Treat all email responses like SMS text messages. Use a set number of characters per response, regardless of recipient or subject. Since it’s hard to count letters, we count sentences instead.

Corrollary: Try two sentences or just one. If the response has to go more than that or three sentences, ask the recipient to talk to you instead.
