Typos

Sunday 28 February 2010, 9.00am HKT

“… Because anyone who is trying to come up with fresh ideas … has way too many things on their plate to complain about other people’s typos. Complaining about typos is totally stupid and outdated … the spelling tyrants will be left behind … if you could proofread your own stuff, then there would never have been a copy editor to begin with. Many dyslexics are very smart. Many spelling bees have Asperger’s syndrome. ‘You don’t have unlimited time, so spend it on ideas, not hyphens’.

“Perfectionism is a disease. If errors bother you a lot, consider that you might be a perfectionist, which is a disorder. Perfectionists are more likely to be depressed than other people because no amount of work seems like enough … people mired in details are likely to have social problems because they cannot look up and notice the nuances of what matters to other people.”
