How to keep costume jewellery looking like new for longer

To stop costume jewellery from turning black, paint over it a coat of clear nail polish.

– also called fashion jewellery, fake jewellery or fallalery

– made as ornamentation to complement a garment or costume

– unsuitable for daily wear because of its base metal construction

– base metal is that which oxidises or corrodes relatively easily

– base metal reacts variably with acids or acidic substances, e.g. skin

– copper, iron, nickel and zinc are the usual base metals used in costume jewellery
