Tomorrow should please Japanese men no end

Sunday 24 October 2010, 3.19pm HKT

Tokyo Five (one of the 433 blogs that I follow on a regular basis) informs us that American restaurant chain Hooters (“delightfully tacky yet unrefined”) will open tomorrow in Tokyo.

Read all about it here (link opens in a new browser tab or window):

Three thoughts on my mind right now:

  • Why did it take Hooters so long to be in Japan?
  • Only Japanese waitresses or waitresses from other countries?
  • When the hell will Hooters come to Hong Kong?

It’s so unfair. Hooters opened its first outlet in Singapore. China also has a Hooters chain. Why not Hong Kong?

Currently, Hooters has restaurants in 29 countries:

  • Argentina
  • Aruba
  • Austria
  • Australia
  • Brazil
  • Canada
  • Chile
  • China (mainland, that is)
  • Colombia
  • Costa Rica
  • Czech Republic
  • Dominican Republic
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Guatemala
  • Japan (from 25 October 2010)
  • Mexico
  • Panama
  • Paraguay
  • Peru (even this country gets one!)
  • The Philippines
  • Singapore (Hooters’ first overseas outlet)
  • South Africa
  • South Korea
  • Spain
  • Switzerland
  • Taiwan
  • United Kingdom
  • Venezuela

Thank you for the link to my site in this post.

I replied to your comment, here:

    >Why did it take Hooters so long to be in Japan?

For a foreign company to set-up in Japan, it’s easier to partner with a Japanese company.
It probably took some time to find a partner company willing to gamble on the success of an American chicken-wing restaurant in Japan.

    >Only Japanese waitresses or waitresses from other countries?

I heard that 1/3 of the waitresses are foreigners.

    >When the hell will Hooters come to Hong Kong?

Probably once they find someone willing to finance the franchise there.

when they opened the first hooters in berlin, most of the staff was foreign. Hooters brought them in to train the German waitresses.

I also heard that once the foreign waitresses left, so did alot of the customers lol
