Tip of the tongue for Week 17

Monday 2 May 2011, 11.01pm HKT

Overheard or read but originally for the week of 28 March to 03 April 2011 (Week 13).

* * *

“No, designers are not rebels. They’re anything but. Designers are people versed in carrying out rebellions, but they’re not rebels. A designer is someone whose mind is capable of overturning the established view […] the established order […] in order to produce, create […] something different from before.

“Design isn’t something that you just sit down, make some sketches, come up with something no one else has come up with before. That comes way, way back after. That’s […] the technical details […] after they have the design in their heads long, long before that stuff happens.

“You don’t understand the valuableness of the designers you employ. Frankly speaking, you’ve been letting go all of your better designers but you’re asking your obedient ones to come up with disobedient designs.”
