  2. I saw a lot of this play out at both universities I attended. Kind of makes me sad to think that academics feel the need for all the “us vs. them” crap. I always got a kick out of impressing the physics professors I worked with, only to have them find out I was a lowly psychology and language major. =P


    • Well, the us/them need is kind of understandable. After all, academics are salaried people and have to justify their pay levels in face of ever-increasing number of graduates and postgrads who surely at some point must be able to AUGMENT if not also SUPPLANT incumbent faculty members. We (and they too) know it’s crap – it depends who’s thinking INSIDE the box to be OUTSIDE the box…
