Blog resumes, hopefully reuncensored
Thursday 19 January 2012, 12.43pm HKT
We resume our normal ‘abnormal’ programming and unfunny lulz.
You didn’t know what happened? Say what???!
Because of two pieces of proposed Great Firewall of America legislation:
- SOPA, or Stop Online Piracy Act (House Bill 3261 in the U.S. House of Representatives)
- PROTECT-IP Act, or Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property Act of 2011 (Senate Bill 968 in the U.S. Senate)
we saw this happened:

“If you tolerate this, your children will be next”
How does SOPA/PIPA affect you? Read the CNET article here.

Here’s a genuine conversation yesterday with a friend of mine:
Friend: Are you doing that Internet demo thing?
Me: Yeah, I’m doing right now.
Friend: That’s a bit out of character for you, isn’t it?
Me: I suppose so. But my blog provider’s also striking. So if it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for me. What’s your take on all this?
Friend: The wotsit called —?
Me: RIAA, and some other companies.
Friend: Yeah, that’s it — and those companies supporting this new law over there — aren’t they in fact the biggest copyright infringers? (LOL)
Me: Is that your professional opinion?
Friend (palms open at chest level): Where do I get my money from?
Me (LOL): You bastard. Next round on you.
(The friend is an intellectual-property lawyer, so I’ll take his word for it.)
