Maddox: ‘I hope SOPA passes’

Tuesday 14 February 2012, 12.39am HKT

The U.S. House of Congress (the American parliament) introduces new Internet censorship bills like SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (PROTECT-IP Act 2008) every year or two like clockwork.

Maddox, one of the world’s top bloggers, really zeroes in on the actual uselessness of the SOPA protests worldwide in his latest essay:—

I hope SOPA passes | The Best Page in the Universe | 30 Jan 2012

Maddox peels away the feel-good’ality of the SOPA protest to show that it does nothing  — and then opens up our eyes to what CAN get results.

Meanwhile, if you’ve not keeping up with the news, two more related stories:—

Tribler reminds me of some stuff I did for a pal once. He pined for access to some Swiss pianist’s music. The site offered no links — none visible, that is. I loaded the site via code view and found the embedded links to some sample MP3s hidden from browsers with IP addresses sourced in places like the US. The other trick was having a friend in Europe allow me shell access to his Unix machine so I could beat the varying copyright limits like that. Lots of folks could, and probably do, use those tricks even now, but Tribler looks to democratize such things.

  2. Hmm, now that the word is basically out, I think Tribler is going to get targetted by the authorities.

  3. Very Epic! By the way where did you get that picture?
