Scheisse! Es regnet! | 03 March 2012

Life just isn’t worth living when you can’t get a booking to your favourite law school’s alumni reception.

What’s it been like for you – the year, I mean? | 6 parts | 03-07 March 2012

The Naked Listener has always started his new years on the first day of the Roman New Year. And, yes, it is necessary that he lays on you an angry year-ending review of 2011 as well. Get some coffee or your favourite contraband medication.

Part 1Part 2Part 3Part 4Part 5 and Part 6.

Personal rating: The most temperamental to write.

Aside: Protips on how to work with an editor | 04 March 2012

More’s the pity when it comes to the insanely pointless) antics of various types of authors whom I’ve had the misfortune and displeasure of working with.

(Sidebar to “What’s it been like for you?” feature above.)

Personal rating: Drew on the unhappiest parts of professional experience to write.

Aside: A little about linguanophiles | 4 parts | 04 March 2012

Pay attention once in a while and you’ll notice some academic disciplines are rigid and rigidised fields. There are three reasons for it — and you’re not going to like knowing them.

(Four-part sidebar to the “What’s it been like? (4/6)” instalment above.)

Part 1Part 2Part 3 and Part 4.

Personal rating: Almost the white-knuckle angriest to write.

Ratta’s progress | 06 March 2012

Try not to snigger and giggle when I give you updates about Ratta, who no longer uses the Ångstrom in her name. Includes my piece of mind about the psychotic craze called Tiger Mother Syndrome now hitting the parental front.

A talent for snot | 07 March 2012

Because of the snooty demeanour of a certain personage who chose to live in a urine bag of a xenophobic country, I don’t know whether to call him congenitally stupid or just congenitally thick-skinned.

Cat bench | 07 March 2012

Something visual to give your eyes a rest after my neverending stream of verbal diarrhoea recently.

Not what it turns out to be | 09 March 2012

Three weeks into a newfound job, Ratta doesn’t seem to be a happy bunny there. The trouble is with the people she “has to work with,” as she knowingly puts it.

More email inbox commentary | 09 March 2012

Some email comments from real people who didn’t follow proper netiquette about leaving comments. Plus some truly negative ones — even one that requires you, gentle reader, of mandatorily being Chinese.

Lifehack: Fixing Chromium extension installs | 10 March 2012

If you use Chromium as your browser and can’t ever install any kind of apps, extensions or themes, we have two workarounds to fix your problem.

Wintry decisions | 10 March 2012

As a really patient and accommodating person, Ratta is calling it quits because she just couldn’t take the crap after three weeks into her newfound job. There is a lesson for all of us to learn here.

The anger and resentment, delayed for now | 11 March 2012

I have a couple of highly emotional reactions about Ratta’s workplace just days ahead of her calling it quits.

Upton Sinclair couldn’t have known how spot on he was about understanding and salaries.

Hurt feelings | 11 March 2012

About the only thing siding with my miserable life this week has been the cold, dreary, English-like weather. Otherwise this past week must have been Tread On The Naked Listener Week, and I didn’t the memo.

Personal rating: Written in a livid bloody rage.

Simplify, man, it’s complicated enough | 12 March 2012

This won’t gel with those who believe they have an afterlife.

The Naked Listener moves to furlough the blog | 12 March 2012

I’ve been in white-hot anger mode for quite some time, for a variety of reasons and causes that are too long and complicated to explain.

At the last count, I actually, personally, unequivocally wrote 916 posts for this blog, plus two guestposts for others and one lovely post from a guest blogger published here.

I won the Versatile Blogger Award in May last year, and the BBC actually unbelievably wrote a short piece about my getting it.

If the absence of this blog (as well as my own physical absence) is what you want and would give you pleasure and comfort, you got it.

It might not be your loss, but it ain’t my loss either.

Vice, advice and assorted mice with a price | 14 March 2012

Some people at lunch with me got to hear my side of the story and why I got so blazingly livid recently. It’s generally easier to explain things out face to face about all the crap that has turned me into a High-Velocity Ballistic Rabbit.
