    Based on the original US test pattern typically seen during the days when the transmitters needed time to warm up before the cameras warmed up. We saw this often in the old days during the few minutes before the actual broadcast schedule began. The “Fallout” reference is to the game series (my son played every version so far) which uses this image as a kind of retro-punk theme in the game.


    • That’s what I thought at first about “Fallout” – something to do with some game.

      The UK had different test patterns (one for the BBC, another for ITV), so I knew this pattern had a high chance of being American or from another English-speaking country. Actually, right now, I can’t even recall ever seeing an American TV test indent.

      Sure as hell remembered the anti-nuclear strike drills in school though…
