FROM THE MANAGEMENT
All comments are now closed after 30 days of posting.
This is to control spam and general prevention of identity theft through hacking from the comment areas and meta links (like the admin log-on links).
The main aim for me is to control the trolling comments on old posts and other troublemaking. We all have 24 hours in the day; the rest is up to us.
This doesn’t affect upvoting and likes, both of which remain fully functional.
To secure your WordPress.com site:—
- Go to your Admin Dashboard
- On lefthand menu, click Settings > Discussion
- In “Other comment settings,” tick “Automatically close comments on articles older than days“
- Scroll down and click “Save changes” button
I highly recommend you do the same for your site now.

7.25am local time, air conditioner on (19°C, 67°F)
WordPress no longer allows changeable backgrounds for my theme (Ambiru). Wallpapering is now a premium feature, which means forking out cold hard cash.
It’s a crying shame, but I suppose it had to happen sooner or later. I wouldn’t mind paying, but I spent all my money on food, drinks and other useful stuff of life.
I discovered this only yesterday (St Swithin’s Day) and was going to put this up:—
Sorry, I meant this:—

SEEING that this year is the Chinese Year of the Wood Horse, it seems appropriate to present a fishy background image to match the potential funny horsetrading that will go on this year.

Koi (鯉, or more specifically nishikigoi 錦鯉, literally ‘brocaded carp’) are ornamental varieties of domesticated common carp (Cyprinus carpio) that are kept for decorative purposes in outdoor koi ponds or water gardens. (Source: Wikipedia)
Interestingly, a koi’s normal length is up to 10 inches (25 cm) in domestic settings (e.g. bathtub, toilet bowl, etc) but will grow to over a metre (3 feet) if dumped into a lake. Why anyone would want to do that, beats me.
By the way, koi is different from goldfish. Goldfish is Chinese, koi is Japanese. Since swimming creatures don’t need passports or visas, their nationalities don’t matter. Goldfish and koi aren’t food either, thankyouverymuch.
Interestingly too, goldfish can become pregnant on their own for no apparent reason. A pregnant goldfish is called a “twit.”
Mum used to have a twit (the goldfish, not me) that did just that.

The WordPress.com stats helper
monkeys angels prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog, just for me, just for you, just for everybody else.
Here’s the standard G.I. excerpt:—
The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 48,000 times in 2013. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 18 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.
Only 18 sold-out performances??? Blimey, not worth waking up to…
